Financial Vocabulary You Should Know

CAT (Costo Anual Total)
The standardized annual cost measure for credit products in Mexico. It includes interest, fees, and other charges expressed as a yearly percentage, making it easier to compare different credit offers.
TIIE (Tasa de Interés Interbancaria de Equilibrio)
The reference interest rate published by Banco de México. Many variable-rate loans and credit products in Mexico are tied to this benchmark rate.
IPAB (Instituto para la Protección al Ahorro Bancario)
Mexico's deposit insurance institution. It protects savings accounts, checking accounts, and time deposits up to a defined limit per person per institution.
Buró de Crédito
Mexico's main private credit bureau. It collects and reports credit history information used by financial institutions when evaluating loan and credit applications.
